Victor Lustig’s 1st Law of the Con:

Be a Patient Listener. It is this not fast talking that gets the con man his coups.

You may not be familiar with who Victor Lustig was. If you are, permit me to say a little for the sake of those who aren’t.

Victor Lustig, also known as Count Lustig was a highly skilled con artist from Austria-Hungary who undertook a criminal career that involved conducting scams across Europe and United States during the early 20th Century. The man who sold the Eiffel tower twice.

Essentially he was a very good sales man who ripped people off.

But his morality is not the subject today, rather what we can learn from him. His first law: Be a patient Listener….

What does it mean to be a patient listener?

It means opening your senses wholeheartedly.

Getting into the matter being discussed, going beyond the surface and scraping the real meaning behind the claim.

…it is this not fast talking that gets the con man his coups.

P.S Did you find this valuable?
